This full-figure hand-inked and -painted animation cel of Dr. Seuss’ famous Cat in the Hat was created in the DePatie-Freleng ink-and-paint department and photographed during the making of the animated television special. The Cat in the Hat was the first in a series of animated films produced by DePatie-Freleng based on the work of Theodor Seuss Geisel, America’s greatest 20th century writer of books for children. A talented team of American animated filmmakers worked with Mr. Geisel (producer, writer and lyricist): Chuck Jones, co-producer; Hawley Pratt, director; Maurice Noble, production design; and animators Hal Ambro, Warren Batchelder, Manny Gould, George Nicholas, Manny Perez, Phil Roman, Robert Taylor, and Don Williams.
