#DG20 – Walt Disney ‘Sword in The Stone’, 1963. This Art Corner cel of ‘Wart and Arcamedes’ measures 8.00″ X 9.50″, bearing official Gold Art Corner Seal on rear. To follow the tremendous success of 101 Dalmatians (1961), Walt Disney selected another modem British classic, The Sword in the Stone. He had acquired the rights to T.H. White’s novel about the boyhood and education of King Arthur in 1939 (the year after the book’s publication). Disney hesitated to develop the film as an animated feature then, feeling that it was not well known enough to warrant it. In the early 1950’s, the novel was again considered for production, and when the smash Broadway musical Camelot opened in 1960 (based on White’s complete cycle of novels about Arthur, The Once and Future King), Walt began development in earnest. (Original Matte & Art Corner Gold Seal).
