Jay Ward Rocky and Bullwinkle

JAY WARD PRODUCTIONS (Rocky & Bullwinkle)

Showing periodically as breaks from the main plot were other cartoon segments. These included Fractured Fairy Tales, parodies of children's fairy tales, Aesop's Fables, in which a philosopher father teaches his son the ways of the world, Peabody's Improbable History, depicting an intelligent, person-like dog and his 'pet boy' Sherman travelling through history, and Dudley Do-Right of the Mounties, the adventures of a Canadian Mountie, Dudley, who, although hard-headed, has no trouble trying to catch the bad guy, the evil Snidely Whiplash.

Voice talents include June Foray (Rocky, Natasha, Nell), Bill Scott (Bullwinkle, Duddly Do-Right, Fillmore the Bear), Paul Frees (Boris, Inspector Fenwick), Hans Conreid (Snidely Whiplash, Uncle Waldo), William Conrad (Narrator), Daws Butler (Cap'n Crunch, and misc. voices), Edward Everett Horton (Fractured Fairy Tales), and others.

The show was created by Jay Ward and Alex Anderson and produced by Bill Scott.

RARE ORIGINAL PRODUCTION CEL AND DRAWING

#JW5 - Jay Ward 'Rocky and Bullwinkle', 1961. This original production cels painted image areas measure 3.50' X 7.00' (Bullwinkle), 3.00' X 2.50' (Rocky), included matching drawings.

'Bullwinkle', 1961. This corresponding original drawing is rendered in graphite pencil, image area measures 3.50' X 7.00'.

'Rocky', 1961. This corresponding original drawing is rendered in graphite and red pencil, image measure 3.00' X 2.50'.

This is a very 'rare' cel saved from destruction, as most were destroyed after production.

Bullwinkle. The name, the face, the antlers. It says it all. Being the proclaimed start of the show this moose has lead the series into stardom. With witty sayings, a low density thought process, and just darn good luck, Bullwinkle has helped solve a number of wrong doings (mostly on accident). From being a star college football play at Wossamotta University, to collecting box tops, to knowing it all. Bullwinkle's charm and personality has made him one of America's most cherished stars. From merchandising, to a ballon in Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, this moose has been there, smiling.

Rocky, the flying squirrel. Known as one half of the Rocky and Bullwinkle duo. Often credited as the voice of reason in the series, Rocky puts the world under constant suspicion. He knows he has seen those faces before (Boris & Natasha) but can never quite put his finger on it. Rocky is truly the brains behind the operation; discovering the evil plots right before they are complete. His inquiring nature and intelligence have helped him and Bullwinkle out of more situations that I can fit on this page.

To the right are the matching drawings to this magnificent art production. Purchased from Mr. Bloomingdale COA.
